It is legal to manufacture, sell and use tobacco in Sweden. This is governed by law in the Tobacco Act of 1993 and subsequent updates. Sweden signed in June 17, 2003 the World Health Organization (WHO) convention on tobacco control. The Convention has been signed by 172 states (in April 2011).
The Convention aims to “protect present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke by providing a framework for partners to implement the tobacco control measures at national, regional and international levels in order to continuously and vigorously reduce tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke. “
The AP funds’ holdings are continually reviewed for possible links to a violation of the WHO convention on tobacco control.
