In June 2025 the Council on Ethics hosted a discussion on the role of investors in tech governance together with the Global Network Initiative. A range of stakeholders from civil society organisations, companies and investors participated in the dialogue which took place in parallel with the Internet Governance Forum in Lillestrøm, Norway.
In the discussions, the Big Tech & Human Rights investor collaboration was highlighted as one example of investor initiatives focused on tech and human rights. The dialogue touched on both challenges and opportunities with regard to engagement between companies, investors and civil society. The United Nations B-Tech Project joined the discussion to share perspectives from its guides for institutional investors’ engagement with technology companies.
