The Council on Ethics’ recommendation, 2008
The Ottawa Treaty, formally the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, was ratified by Sweden in 1998. The Convention on Cluster Munitions was signed by Sweden in December 2008. These conventions state that it is not permitted to produce, trade in or use anti-personnel mines or cluster weapons respectively. Stockpiled anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions must be destroyed.
The company has admitted that it produces and sells cluster munitions, and the Council has therefore recommended that the AP Funds exclude the company.
